After a 20-year career as controller for Del Monte Food Corporation, Wallace Mayer opened W.H. Mayer Accountancy in 1955. The first office was in Wallace and wife Mary’s home in Oakland, California. Wallace steadily grew the business over the next ten years by assisting individuals and small businesses with accounting and tax preparation services.
In 1965, when the Mayers moved to Pleasanton, the city had 6,000 residents and was mainly known for the county fair held there each summer. During the late 1960s, Rosemary Pease, Wallace Mayer’s daughter, played a key role in helping the business grow. In 1970, W.H. Mayer Accountancy moved out of the family home and into its own space one block off Main Street in Pleasanton. That same year, Wallace Mayer, Jr., the founder’s son, started to work in the family business.
The firm continued to grow during the seventies, and by 1979 it was apparent that the property in downtown Pleasanton was not large enough. In 1980, the firm purchased land on Black Avenue in Pleasanton and construction began. The Black Avenue Professional Buildings were completed in 1981 and W.H. Mayer Accountancy moved into its current location. In 1984, Wallace H. Mayer, Sr. retired and five years later his grandson, Jim Pease, joined the firm.
Over the past several decades, W. H. Mayer Accountancy has served the accounting and tax consulting needs of the Tri-Valley. We pride ourselves on providing wise, honest and timely advice to our clients. Just as Wallace Mayer Sr. did when he started the business in 1955, we view ourselves as effective advocates and trusted advisors for our clients.
